Albany ladies

I'm going to take the munchkin to visit my sister later this month. She lives in Albany - any recs for good places to go or things to do with a 2 year old? She doesn't have kids, and the only place she knew about was the NYS museum.

Re: Albany ladies

  • The Saratoga Children's museum is much more child friendly...its about a half an hour from Albany but well worth the drive.

  • The Saratoga Children's Museum is fantastic, and there's also something in Glens Falls (about 45min. north of Albany) that's similar, but forget the name (Explore, maybe?). There's also Tumbling Tykes on Rte. 7 in Latham. It's an indoor gym area for toddlers. You can check their website to see when they have open playtime.
  • Closer to Albany is the Children's Museum of Science and Technology (CMOST) it's right across the river in East Greenbush, and if you'll be in town during the week- there's a special Wednesday program from 1-5 just for toddlers (it's fun for them if they miss this program though- lots to touch and do.) http://www.cmost.com/about_us/index.php

There's also the Schenectady Museum and Planetarium about 20 mins from Albany that also features hands-on exhibits, Howe's Caverns about 25 mins. away to go see the caves, and the State Museum does family weekend the 3rd weekend of the month if that's when you'll be in town. If it's nice out, a walk in the woods, across the fields or around the pond at 5 River's Envt'l education center is fun for kids (15 mins away in Delmar.)

If you want a night away- there's the Great Escape Lodge in Lake George that has an indoor water park, character meet and greets, and lots of family activities (we used to take our nephews every year and they loved it.)
