Given my Irish and Polish heritage, I'm extremely pale. I would normally hit the tanning salon for about 4 sessions prior to going on vacation so that I have somewhat of a base tan so I don't burn and I also don't want to glow in all my whiteness
I'm leaving for the Bahamas this weekend and would like some color, but couldn't go tanning because of the baby. I've never had a professional spray tan before. Does anyone have any suggestions for me based on your experience before I make an appointment at Hollywood Tans? I literally know nothing about it.
Re: Spray tan?
I have done it twice. In addition to mosturizing, also exfoliate the day before. The first time I did it I had purchased two creams from them, one was a moisturizer I put on the day before after exfoliating and the other was a "pre-spray cream" I put on in the morning before I went later that day. The second time I exfoliated and used my own mositurizer the day before and didn't do anything the day of. . . . I will say the first one was way better, no streaks that I noticed and very even, but I also went to a place KNOWN for their spary tans, the second time was a taning place that just opened the spray tan part. So could be any of the issues, but the second one was not as even and in creases of my skin (like inside your elbow/knees when they bend) there were streaks.
Neither of them lasted for more than a few days.
Side story: My sister-in-law tanned her legs and arms while she was pregnant in a tanning bed. She claimed it was ok???? Personally I probably wouldn't risk it!!!
Ok, I've Oompa Looompa'd once....at Hollywood Tans.
With that being said, I am NOT recommending it while you are PG!! They do not offer you anything to plug your nose, you will be inhaling that crap & it sure is nasty. Also, a spray tan does NOT give you a base what-so-ever. It gives you color but not a base....therefore, you are still going to need to apply SPF regularly & moreso since you are expecting!!
But if you insist on doing it anyway, I agree, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!! Then go to the salon, spray tan it up & enjoy the fumes, then be sure to use the moisturizer stuff that they give you to put on (I can't remember if it was beforehand or after, heck maybe it was both)!! Be extra cautious around your hands/feet/neck where the orange tends to stay & makes you look funny!! You are also told not to shower until at least 6 hours after or something crazy like that....enjoy the stickiness side effect & horrible odor that comes along w/ spray tanning.
I did realize that the spray tan will only give me color and I fully expected to use lots of SPF. After reading everyone's responses, maybe I'll just deal with looking like a pregnant Casper. It doesn't sound like a spray tan is such a fabulous idea. Bahamas, get ready for some pale people!
Thanks for helping me to make my decision (and saving me some money!)
