OK.... I am going to be this dorky. HELP!

Apparently, our guests are either in the dark, or dual flush toilets are less common (read harder to understand) than most toilets.

I just found out from 3 different people that they just push both buttons.

How can I put a nice little sign that says, "For #1 press here, For #2 press here"

I don't actually want to use #1 or #2.

Thanks!

  • At my gym its labeled with one water drop for the lower water flush, and three water drops for the higher water flush. There's additional information (I'll look again tonight to see the wording), but I think the water drops are pretty self explanatory!

  • Ours had that... ha ha. I thought it was so obvious, and it was a gross sticker that was getting dirty and stuff, that I took it off.

  • I have only seen pictures and heard dual flush toliets described, I've never seen or used one.  So I would say they're uncommon.  The pictures with the water droplets sound good.

Same here. I am not sure I have ever seen one in person.

  • You could paint on the water droplets (nail polish?).  I think the visual is helpful for people who haven't used one before.

  • I had never seen a dual flush toilet until dh and I traveled to Germany last fall. There, they were very common, but I still think I've only seen one in the US since we've been back.

  • So I'm a google nerd, and googled "Dual Flush Sign" and clicked images.  I couldn't remember what the ones at our airport said, but google came through:

I like these two better, though:

  • The wording I've seen refers to "solid waste" and "liquid waste". Still kinda gross...
  • ohhh and the ones in germany don't have levers, they have buttons. like this and mounted on the wall behind the toilet

I think that is more intuitive.  What i usually see is the lever, or, more commonly, this, which is what i imagined when i suggested painting droplets on it:

The toilets at PCC are dual-flush.

  • yes, that is the one that i counted seeing since i have been back! i hadn't used the bathroom at pcc until wine nights.

If you're referring to PDX I think they use one similar to this. I haven't flown through there in a while though.

ETA: I had a reading comprehension fail and realized that you googled the correct sign from the airport....it's been a looong day.  Stick out tongue

  • umm.. they ARE less common. I have never seen one. I would just tell people before they enter the bathroom (this is at your home, right?)
  • My mother had "normal flush" on the small button and "for when you need just a bit more" on the large button. It was more polite than mentioning waste, I thought. And it basically pointed to the low water flush as the "normal" setting, enforcing your efforts to save water.

I don't get this.  You're in the bathroom, making waste, and there's a necessity to explain how to flush said waste.  Are we really so squimish after we've pooped that we can't put waste or #1 or #2 on a sign?

this sounds the best to me!

  • I would put a sign saying "little" and "big".  People should get it.  lol

This is awesome. I am getting a girl on ETSY to make a static cling so that I can take it off and clean, but so that it is right there on the toilet.

To answer a PP, I already have to explain that we are on septic, and that you can't flush ANYTHING (not that you should on sewer either), and we have the evolve shower head so I have to explain that one too... I feel that people have to read a whole document just to enter my bathroom :-)

This is the exact sign my work has!  It's a dual flush toilet Kohler donated to us (we specify their products on the many LEED buildings we design).
