Hi Girls! Happy hump day!
DH and I are approaching our one year anniversary (kinda - still have 2 months to go) and I'd really like to hear some of the ways you girls celebrated your first anniversary. Where did you go? What you did? Gift ideas? I know the first year is paper gifts, right?
Thanks in advance!!!
Re: One Year Anniversary
The traditional anniversary gift for one year is paper. But there is also a modern list and it has clocks as the one year.
Our one year is this month on the 21st of this month. I'm making us a really nice dinner that night. We were going to go out, but we'll be picking up our replica cake from our baker on Saturday...so I don't want to go to a restaurant where I'll be tempted to get dessert when we have our cake at home! Plus I like cooking.
We're buying plane tickets to Ottawa Canada as our paper gift. They're pricey, so we're not going big on gifts other than that. But I'm thinking of getting him a new watch as well since I bought him a nice one for our wedding day.
We went to Disneyland for our first anniversary We didnt give eachother gifts since we went on a trip. My MIL did give us a bunch of paper plates and paper towels and Scott toilet paper (my DH's name is Scott). She cracks me up lol
Are you going to get a replica of your wedding cake for your anniversary?? Or did you freeze yours?
Happy *almost* anniversary!! I think the first one is very exciting and special.
Mike and I usually prefer little trips or "experiences" rather than buying gifts, so for our first anniversary, we went to Flagstaff for the weekend. It's one of our favorite weekend getaway spots in AZ (I think because it reminds us so much of Ohio and PA, where we're from). We actually spent a lot of the time in a sports bar watching football, haha, but that's something we both enjoy, so we had a great time. We did get each other nice cards to fulfill the "paper anniversary" celebration. We're saving up for a bigger trip for our 5th anniversary to go back to where we honeymooned. But until then, we'll probably just do little road trips or other fun "experiences" (like a comedy show, dinner, etc) to celebrate.

Ours is coming up as well (well in 3 months) and I'm at a loss. We're taking a big trip this summer to the Turks and Caicos Islands, but that's kind of for a different reason.
I think we'll end up having dinner at our wedding venue, and we've discussed buying a nice clock to put up in the house as a gift to "each other".
We froze our top tier, and we are SO excited to eat it! Hahaha. It was so delish, white cake with lemon curd filling, and white fondant, yum-o (sorry I just had to quote Rachel Ray, total foodie)!
Nicole, your MIL is too funny! What a cute idea!
I'd really love to go back to where we honeymooned. We went to Mazatlan, MX and stayed at El Cid - this amazing all-inclusive resort that I totally recommend to anyone venturing down to Mazatlan!!! The hotel itself was very reasonably priced, but plane tickets are over $1000. And I just can't justify spending that when we've spent so much money this year already on renovating.
Can't wait to meet my baby boy!
We didn't go anywhere except in the car for 4 days. The day after our 1 year, we did our road trip here. The day of, we picked up MIL from the aiport. VERY uneventful 1st annivesary. We didn't do gifts either bc of the huge road trip we had.
We're not planning anything big until our 10 year and then we're going to renew our vows in Jamaica, I think.
Sorry, I'm not much help. I think it's important to celebrate but I didn't think it was that important to go crazy for it. We were making a HUGE life change with moving here.
That is completely understandable! I normally am not a huge anniversary person. The only reason I'd like to vacation is b/c of how busy we've been this past year. I think we'd both benefit from a really relaxing weekend - like it'd leave us with a clean slate to get through another year.

Every year DH and I have had a nice dinner out. One of us picks the place (and we alternate years, this last year it was his choice). Price is not a factor, and we just choose what we want. It's let us try some new places, have some great meals we wouldn't normally have, and of course have a nice night out.
We're not big on gifts and we've always taken a vacation every year (just not around our anniversary), so this works for us. For our first anniversary, we did eat our top layer of cake. If you don't have it, I've heard of lots of people getting it recreated or buying cupcakes that are the same flavor.
Who knows what we'll do this year, as we'll have a 6 month old when it rolls around.
We were still in Jersey for our first anniversary so we went to this place called Caesar's Pocono Palace. They have the champagne glass hot tubs and private pools in the rooms. We went for the weekend and got room service for every meals and stayed in the whole time. We only left to go golfing at the resort. My hubby surprised me and told me that Friday morning before work to pack for the weekend, sooooo much fun!
For our 2nd and 3rd we picked nice places for dinner. For our 3rd we were visiting my parents out here so we did dinner with them. Last year we were in Disneyland for the week which was a lot of fun. This year.....not sure. I'm due about a week before our anniversary so we might just be sleeping!!! LOL
Congrats on 1 year(almost)!
We just stayed in a hotel for the weekend and relaxed a few weeks before our anniversary. We were hoping to go to six flags or something but he shipped out to boot camp earlier than expected so I spent my actual anniversary with my SIL and my niece.

We didnt go on any trips or anything.
We went out to Ruths Chris, our fav go to steak place and then we did a joint gift. The modern gift for one year is clocks. We both really wanted a large funky clock for over the fireplace, so we both pitched in and it was a joint gift to each other Its nice because we look at it every day
