Green bridesmaid dresses?

So my sister is getting married. She has decided we (she) is picking a color and then we all get to choose our own style. I realize unless it's black (which it's not) colors vary by designer, but if I could find one, say at a second-hand shop, that matched perfectly would it be rude of me to suggest that? Does it just sound cheap?

We don't have any "green" dress stores that I know of and I don't think ordering online would be a good option for this since it does have to match (and I hate buying a dress without trying it on!). Any other way I can green this dress-buying process?

So dreading the gag-worthy bm dress material I'm going to have to try on when we go shopping tonight.

  • I don't think thats inappropriate at all. I'm sure you'd still be making sure it looked nice and was in good condition. A lot of brides get their dresses used so what's really the difference? And there are a lot of stores that specialize in higher-end consignment clothes, or even formals.

  • I would say to stay out of regular bridal boutiques- those dresses are almost guaranteed to be 100% polyester and likely to never be worn again.

Although not truly green like organically grown cotton, etc. I would check out Ann Taylor and J. Crew- at least those places offer dresses many people would wear again.

  • I would buy used. If you have a David's Bridal near you, pick something there and then stalk eBay for it.

  • If she doesn't pick something that would work for a re-wear for you, when you're done donate it.  There are tons of organizations that take used BM dresses and recycle them for prom dresses for under-privleged girls.  I bought my BM their dresses, and when the wedding was over, I took them and donated them so they could be used by someone in need.  (I was very conscious in picking my style so that this was a practical option...)
  • Suggest JCrew to her? Maybe? She can pick the color, you can pick the style, and you can wear it again or donate it. I got to pick out a lovely JCrew dress last year that I would wear again. And I have a pile of dresses ready for prom-season donation.
  • My dress came from a second-hand wedding shop and cost me all of $200 :) Does it look cheap to you?

PS - I realized after looking for a pic to put in here that I don't really have any good pictures that show off my dress! Haha oh well :)

Anyway, I say look for a second hand shop, that's about as EF as you can get :) I don't get why she would care as long as the color matches! Within 30 miles of my house we had 2 bridal second hand shops and I was lucky enough to find my dress two months before my wedding at one of them!

  • Second hand or even Ebay if you are limited to a Davids Bridal bridesmaid dress.
