SFG ? - Using Corn as a Shade for Other Plants
I am working on laying out my SFG plots and was wondering if there is any merit in the idea of using my square of corn as a shade to help protect lettuce and other veggies that like it a bit cooler in a square directly to the north of the corn.
I was planning on planting an entire 4x4 square with a few types of corn and then planting the 4x4 square just north with lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots and maybe some peas.
Would this work? Does it have enough potential to try this summer?
Re: SFG ? - Using Corn as a Shade for Other Plants
I've heard of this, though I haven't tried it. This year we're doing the 3 Sisters.
I've also heard of using trellis teepees of beans, peas and other climbers and planting the lettuce in the middle.
