does the shower color scheme have to match the wedding?

For a bridal shower of course?

I am planning the bridal shower for my friend.. The bride's color is a caribbean blue and ivory.

Can I do any color, theme, scheme I want to or is it typically best to keep in the same color palette?

 Thanks!

Re: does the shower color scheme have to match the wedding?

  • I have seen it two ways:

    1. Same color scheme as the wedding colors.

    2. They themed it after the honeymoon destination and in this caes it was Hawaii.

Are you having a hard time finding things in that color scheme?

  • yes I am.

Hmm they haven't picked a honeymoon destination yet.

  • Hostess with the Mostess has some great unique shower ideas. I love that sight. I think you can do any colors you want, they are linked but two seperate things.

  • I don't think it has to match the wedding, just be sure to give it it's own theme or scheme (from invites to napkins/decor).

  • I don't think it has to match.
  • I don't think it needs to match.  In fact, unless the shower is the day before I doubt anyone will notice/remember.

Disagree...in my hometown (Syracuse, NY) & w/ my family & friends, it is the norm to have them match & brides seem to like that :)

  • None of mine matched my color scheme and that was absolutely fine.  They're often held in different seasons, times of day, etc. and some palettes just don't work under all scenarios.

Like Heather said, in some circles, it IS the norm.  I think it might depend on what your friends have done in the past.  For me, personally, I think it's fun to take on a different color palette.

I'm helping plan a shower for my BFF later this year and mentioned some possible color combos to the other BMs and one of them said, "I like X colors b/c it's similar to her wedding colors!"  But that had never been a consideration for me.

In other words, unless you think your friend *needs* to have the same colors - and maybe you should ask her - then go for whatever works best with the time of day/year/locale.  HTH!
