Analyzing your dreams?

Does anyone do this?  I've been having really strange dreams.  Some are just kind of funny, other are to the point of being quite disturbing.  I think it's because of 2 different books I was reading...

I go through phases where I'll have strange dreams for a few nights straight, then for the rest of the nights, I don't even remember them.

DH bought me a dream dictionary a few years back but it's pretty vague.

Just wondering what you do when you have a strange/interesting/vivid dream.  Look it up?  Just forget about it?

Re: Analyzing your dreams?

  • the only one i remember looking up, b/c i have had it multiple times over many years, are dreams related to all my teeth falling out.  and each time i have it, i look it up, then forget what it means after a while, then i have the dream again - so i look it up again.  you'd think i'd remember what it means, but i still don't.  something about being afraid of failure or embarrassment or something to that effect.

otherwise, i generally try to forget my dreams. Stick out tongue  i notice i tend to remember my dreams more when i'm not getting good sleep, or if i'm getting woken up throughout the night.  i normally don't remember any of my dreams.

  • All of my strange dreams are nightmares, so I generally try to forget them ASAP. Stick out tongue Honestly, I'm like a 4-year-old, I get nightmares soooo easily. I can't watch scary or graphically violent movies because then I'll have nightmares for a week (for some reason Tarantino's movies are the worst - my subconscious just can't deal with his films).
  • I usually just tell MH and forget about it. I used to try to interpret/analyze them but over time, I think my dreams are so random sometimes that there's no real meaning or anything behind it, so I just treat them as just dreams now...

One thing I noticed though is that I've been dreaming more (or remembering them more when I wake up) since I've gotten pg...

Have you ever dreamt something so intense and sad that it makes you cry in your sleep so when you wake up from it, you're already crying IRL? It has happened to me a few times in my life and I really hate those =(

I've had these, and I've also had dreams where I've been laughing in my sleep (in one dream I was laughing in this really strange hiccuping way, and then I started laughing at the way I was laughing in my sleep Stick out tongue).

  • My husband talks in his sleep all the time. We have full out conversations where I think he's awake, only he's not.

My biggest reoccuring dream is this one where I have to escape from my parents' house because people have broken in to it. I always end up going out the basement's bathroom window. I actually had to do that once because the handle on the bathroom door got stuck - and it was exactly like I remembered doing it in my dreams.

Same!  Except, I have really vivid dreams of when I'm arguing with someone.  For a long time it was with my mother.  And I'd wake up still feeling really upset and drained, like I really had been in an argument.

I go in cycles of having really crazy vivid dreams or not remembering them at all.  In fact, last night I dreamt MH and I lived in this huge old house with all these wierd locks on the doors b/c at night a wolfman would try to get in.  And if you went through this one door, you entered a department store!  Ha ha ha, wow I sound crazy.

I have also had dreams about some activity or something and then later have had a total deja vu in real life.  Very strange!

  • I have three kinds of scary dreams, but I don't have them very often.  Usually my dreams are just really random, but not scary.

Most often, I dream of tornadoes - a tornado is blowing outside and we are barely safe inside, or looking for a safe place (like the end of the movie Twister).  Apparently it means that I think my life is chaotic and I'm afraid everything will spin out of control.

I also have dreams where my teeth fall out, and dreams where I float really, really high in the air and it's scary because eventually I'll go plummeting back to earth.  I have no idea what those mean!
