Would you wear this to a wedding?

Okay...I posted this question on F&B, and got a mixed answer, but a small majority said no. I'm attending the wedding of my coworker on Saturday in Greenville. It's a 1:30 ceremony with a dessert reception after, so not super formal. I asked my other coworker and she thinks this dress is okay...and while I think it's the best of all my current options (I think my typical black wedding dress is too black and too fancy for this...), I'm still nervous that I'll be the talk of the wedding if I show up with white. Here's the photo (I'm on the right). I'd wear it with a black bolero and probably black shoes and some black jewelry. Thanks!

Re: Would you wear this to a wedding?

  • I think it's super cute, but I had similar doubts as you when I had a white and yellow dress for a summer wedding. I think your's is similar and ok.

Here's what I wore for reference and I even did white accesories Embarrassed. But there were no complaints or comments and the bride was more than a little bridzilla!

  • I think it's fine. If someone confuses you for the bride, they have serious eye sight problems.
  • Do you have another color you could wear with it?  Instead of black, what about a fuschia cardigan and accessories?  Something to spring it up a bit?

I think it's ok provided you wear the black bolero.  I just think another contrasting color may be even better.

  • Thanks y'all (oh yes, I'm really from South Carolina now!)

I wouldn't care less if someone wore something white to my wedding (actually, I didn't wear white either...) but I know some people are picky. You guys have made me feel a little better. And I love the other colored bolero/shrug idea...I only own a black one currently, but I may go looking for another color.

  • I heard that several people wore white to my wedding. My mom wore ivory (which was fine with me, she looked gorgeous!) I did see the other white dresses in the pictures and didn't think anything of it. Trust me, there was no mistaking me for the bride! Big Smile

  • I think it looks fine.  I would wear it!

  • I think you'll be fine. I would do bright accessories since its more afternoon then evening but I would still wear the black bolero thing.

I had 2 people wear white to my wedding, while there was no mistaking I was the bride, I was shocked that people don't think about that stuff. Here's my thought: there are a million colors out there besides white. Its a wedding, its the one day that you can find something to wear that doesn't scream white.

  • Yeah, I too think it is fine- and very cute!

I had 3 people wear white to my wedding- 2 are girls that I adore, and who I know didn't think they were doing anything wrong.  Problem was, their dresses looked so much like mine- all white with a black sash!  The other should have known better and wore an all white suit.  That was the one that I thought was rude.

  • Reading the replies kind of made me change my vote.

It seems like a lot of people remember exactly how many people wore white to their wedding.

While people say it doesn't bother them, no one remembers how many people wore pink or yellow to their wedding do they?

Do you have time to go out tonight and try to find something else, or could you wear slacks and a dressy blouse?

  • MrsZ--I was noticing that too! I do remember one person who wore a yellow hoodie to my wedding, but I don't remember if anyone wore white...the hoodie was weird though.

I might just chicken out and wear a black dress. I need to branch out on my wedding attire options...I always wear a black dress!

  • A yellow hoodie?!  How funny, and definitely weird.
