Oh. Em. Gee.

How CUTE is he?!?

We took our exchange student to Texas Roadhouse after picking him up from OIA.  He said the restaurant's interior is exactly like what he thought America would be like Smile.  I think he was a little overwhelmed....poor kid!  But we're having lots of fun...he is adorable and polite and courteous and I just might not let him go back to Germany!!  Smile

  • He looks like he's having a great time!  Does he speak as much English as you thought he would?  When will he start school?

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get involved with hosting an exchange student?

  • I think he's having a good time with us  Smile  He is not as confident in his English as I expected, but that will come.  He gets overwhelmed easily when other people are talking to him and looks to me for help.  He starts school tomorrow - my first day of teaching!  So it will be new for both of us!

We are friends with a couple at our church who are the area reps for an exchange student program, and we started thinking about it months ago.  The wife put a bug in my ear about it and I agreed to talk to Mike about it, thinking that he would say no and that would be the end of it.  Well, he thought it was a neat idea, and the more we learned about it, the more I thought this is something we can do!  And honestly, once I saw his application, I knew he was the one.  I felt an instant connection with him, and it was then that I knew this was something we should do.   Every obstacle that stood in our way - every excuse I could come up with - was removed, so all we had to do was walk through the open door!  And as you can probably tell, we're so glad we did Smile

  • He is adorable! What a cool experience for all of you. And I am sure his family would be so good to you if you were ever to visit them in Germany. Have fun! Give us lots of reports about what all you do with him and what he thinks about it! I love the differences in culters (all cultures!) and how people react to them!
