Did we talk HUMMER yet?

I may have missed it, but who is happy that Hummer is closing down?

The whole concept was ridiculous, IMO of course... but it makes sense that they aren't doing well (and shouldn't be).

Re: Did we talk HUMMER yet?

  • I AM! I drive by the largest Hummer dealership on the East Coast every.day.  It's right next to my house.  I've always seen the Hummer as the symbol of American excess and greed.

  • I'm glad too.  I mean, they're great for the use they were designed for - in the military, but they don't belong on normal roads.  My cousin got rear ended by one (she drives a Mini).  Very thankful that she was ok.
  • oh my gosh YES!! I'm from Michigan and where I lived, I used to see 20+ hummers DAILY. UGH it made me gag.

  • ha ha. yes. for a while someone was parking their Hummer next to my house and I was so embarrassed. Seriously if your car is too big to fit in your garage or parking slab, you really shouldn't have it. (our neighborhood has alley parking and tiny lots, so a big Hummer looks especially out of place)

I did notice that it had dealer plates on it, which at least made more sense, and then a couple months later it was gone.

Totally this. They have their purposes and but should never have been an every day vehicle for the average person.

My mantra is, if you can't park it... you shouldn't be driving it!

This includes the FJ cruisers and redneck trucks that people can only park if they do a pull through.  Now, if they want to park in a wide open field or empty section of the parking lot and walk, that's fine... A little exercise never hurts!

  • I am so happy!  There's one that -surprise, surprise - can't fit in its driveway OR garage.  It parks at the end of the street so you have to sit in the middle of the road while you try to see around the blind curve people speed around AND the line of cars at the stop light going up a hill.  Stick out tongue

Jeff actually asked yesterday if I could fix it (I stopped a stupid big redneck truck from parking and hanging out into the street changing the place we park our Taurus), too.  I told him to give me a garbage truck and I'd ram it a few times so it's nice and skinny.  Angel

    I love you.

Seriously.  Who on EARTH thought it was okay to commercially make a car that gets nine.miles.per.gallon.  NINE!  Grrr...Angry

9 MPG?!  I had no idea they were that bad!

And also, I love you too!  You've definitely done a good job of inspiring me to pay attention to things like GMO.  My Dad works for BASF in the ag area, and was considering a swap to Monsanto.  I'm glad he didn't, though I'm not sure how great BASF is in the grand scheme of things.

Haha!  I can't park my Yaris.  When I drove my '89 Buick LeSabre (first car, it was my Grandma's and I got it when she passed away) I could park that thing with my eyes closed.  I learned to drive in a '79 Chevy Malibu.  Big cars I can do.  My little car confuses the crap out of me.  I never am where I think I am in a spot.

Anywho, I am SO happy!  My SIL wanted one.  She kept saying she was going to get one and she was saving up for it.  She's never owned a car (she used public transpo her whole life).  Then she rented a car over July 4th and got a DUI and now she can't afford it.  THANK GOD!
