Random...but cool...

Bill works in the Pease Tradeport, and yesterday I met him for his break and brought sandwiches. So we headed over to the airport on Pease to watch for planes. While we were sitting there, 4 cars pulled up behind us. I looked at Bill and said "huh that's weird". We watched a handful of people climb out of the vehicles with flags and a banner. One of the people came over to our car to tell us that they are a group of people (mostly veterans) who come down to Pease everytime there is a flight full of soldiers going to or from the middle east. They go to the airport and talk to the soldiers and provide them with coffee and donuts. This time it was a group of Army soldiers had stopped at Pease to refuel and were on their way to Kuwait. I told the gentleman that my brother had been to Kuwait and Iraq and I thought it was really special for them to do this. He told us to feel free to get out and wave with them. We decided that we should, as a tribute to my brother and all the other military men and women who are fighting for us. I'm not sure if the soldiers saw us, or waved back, but it was cool to be a part of that. Even if it was only by accident. I actually got a little choked up while waving to them.

Re: Random...but cool...

  • What a great story!  That's very cool!
  • That's such a nice thing that those people do! Bravo for you for joining in too!
  • Are they called the "Pease Greeters"?  Some of our Rotary Club members are a part of the Pease Greeters and the founders of that group were recognized by the White House recently - because it's all volunteer.  They even sparked the interest of Whaleback Technologies - who put in phones and gave free phone cards to the soldiers for either their last calls from inside the US or their first calls back inside the US.  So cool.
  • Yes it is the Pease Greeters....it was totally a coincidence that we happened to be there, but it was really a great moment!
