New Homeowner in MD and need help

Hi eveyone. First post on this board and since it is march i'm starting to think about what to plant in both the front and back of the house.

We live on the bottom of a hill and needless to say the ground is very wet. I'm hoping to be able to find a tree that really likes and absorbs a lot of water, as well as, plants that do the same.  Any suggestions?

Re: New Homeowner in MD and need help

  • Our new yard is COMPLETELY saturated.  I look forward to hearing responses!

  • This is us, only our back window faces about 25 ft of grass then a 10 ft steep slope.  Here are some of the plants we've planted or are looking to plant.

    Trees: Magnolia, Riverbirch

Plants: rose of sharon, japenese primrose, aster, clethra

  • I live in MD, too and our yard is literally a lake right now with all the snow melting. I looked for a few weeks for plant options that matched our soil type and most of the advice I've found said to improve the drainage rather than try to plant to absorb the water.

  • i agree w/ PP on the drainage solution. come summer you'll be in the opposite situation and having to over water your entire yard.

it all really depends on your light situation (full/partial sun or shade).

are you in a new residential construction (ie: you built it) or is this a pre-owned home?
