Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Outlook Password Recovery?

Is there a way to recover an Outlook password that has been lost or forgotten?

Re: Outlook Password Recovery?

  • Is the password for the email account or the personal folders file (.pst)?  If it's the first, you should reset the password through whoever administers your account (IT at work, your ISP, etc.).

If it is for the personal folders...well, to put it in the words of Microsoft "Passwords cannot be reset or recovered if lost. Microsoft is not able to retrieve lost .pst passwords."  I Googled and there are various programs you can download that claim to recover them, but I don't have any experience with them so I can't recommend one.  If you're friends with any hackers, they can probably recommend a cracking program, but if the password is a non-dictionary word it can take a really long time to crack (and I don't know if Outlook will lock you out after so many attempts).

Here's the Microsoft Outlook Online Help article on lost passwords: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011136901033.aspx
