Retaining wall help

I posted earlier last week about help with what to do with my retaining wall. Here are some better pics of it. There are lilies that bloom & the tree looking thing is a hydrangea bush. I really want to add to it because it's really kind of bare & mostly gets full of weeds. It's full sun & we're in zone 6. I don't like roses & I want something that will be easy to care for. Thanks for the input.

  • I would consider putting a few evergreen plants in there. Perhaps Ligustrum? I am a fan of firepower nandina as well.

     btw - I use monrovia.com alot.

  • Shurb roses are easier to care for and would fill that space better.  I agree some evergreen shrubs mixed in would help.

I have mostly shade but here's a list of sun loving plants to start from:

Butterfly Bush, big beautiful flowering shrub that loves the sun

    Burning Bush

Dogwood, red bark for winter interest

Weigela, flowering shrub that can have varigated or purple foliage

    Coneflowers

    Liatris

    Balloon Flower

Peony, standard peonies usually need a wire cage to help hold them up or you can use strong lower plants to help hold them up, otherwise we have a fern leaf variety with less petals that stands on it's own

    Prairie sunflower

    Garden Phlox

    Sedium, blooms in the fall

    Hollyhocks

    Foxglove

    False Indigo

Daylilies, very, very low maintanence and you can get reblooming varieties

    Iris

    Allium
