Recommend your DSLR Camera

I'm looking to get my first camera. Please recommend yours!

Re: Recommend your DSLR Camera

  • I have a Nikon D90 and I love it.  I just got it for XMas, but unfortunately, haven't had too much time to learn it through and through.

  • I don't know how many bells and whistles you want your DSLR to have.  Mine is a Canon 50d, which is probably more camera than the average user would need, but an awesome camera nonetheless.  I've heard great things about the Canon Rebel.  It's more of an entry-level DSLR that takes awesome pics.  Obviously, I'm a Canon girl Big Smile

  • Thanks ladies. I am looking for a good beginner camera... I'll check them all out. Did you guys buy in a store or on-line?
  • Mine came from Abes of Maine.  They have good prices on a lot of different electronic equipment and typically, you don't pay shipping.  It's worth checking out.  Don't forget to check out Amazon, too.  Never hurts to compare with everyone!
  • We have the Nikon D90 as well (it was our Christmas gift to each other) from Amazon, and we're loving it.  We purchased it with a 18-105mm f/3/4-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens, and then purchased a 50 prime f/18D AF Nikkor lens, as well (all from Amazon).  We also purchased a light scoop to play with, and it's definitely been worth the $20.

I'm not getting  a DSLR for a while till I figure out shooting in manual, but I have been using a foil-covered index card as a light scoop for my Canon s5 is.  Do you think the lightscoop will fit any hotshoe?  A speedlight is nowhere near in my future either and our house is sometimes like cave, lol.

Hmmm...I'm not sure.  It's not listed on their website, but I bet if you sent them an email, they'd be able to tell you one way or the other.

  • If you buy a DSLR camera through Ritz camera (in Kenwood or Rockwood) you get free camera classes with it!
