Chicago CSA recommendations?
We're interested in signing up for a CSA this summer, but I looked around online and found a million of them. So, I thought I'd see if anyone here has had experience with any of them. Good? Bad? It's just the two of us, so we're looking for one that offers a smaller option.
Thanks!
Re: Chicago CSA recommendations?
i was checking some out a few weeks ago. i liked
Market Basket (Growing Power)
Not a CSA. Place your order by Monday (or Friday?conflicting info) for a W, Sa or Su pick-up
Regular basket ? conventionally grown ($17)
Sustainability basket ? organically grown ($28)
Junior basket ($9)
Fruit basket ($17) (there is fruit in the other baskets too)
Also available; meats, honey
I also like Sandhill Organics (Prairie Crossing)
or the Chicago Farmstand on E. Randolph. produce is best on Wednesday.
Not sure where you are in the city, but the Newleaf Natural Grocery up in Rogers Park near Loyola has great produce CSA box options at reasonable prices. When we did it a couple of years ago, it was $15 for a small box a week and $25 for a large box.
Another option is the CSA offerings at True Nature Health Foods also up in Rogers Park/Edgewater, right across the Dominick's on Broadway. They offer produce and meat options.
