Composting Pits

We used to toss peach, plum, cherry, etc pits into our compost.  We never had any issue with them and they'd break down for the most part.

What about avocado pits?  Do they break down?  I don't exactly have a good way to crush them but it seems like a waste to just toss them in the trash.

Re: Composting Pits

  • Supposedly the bigger and "hotter" your compost heap the better it breaks down pits and seeds. I usually put these in the city compost, but I am pretty sure I stuck an avocado pit in my own compost a while back, so we'll see!
