Girls 1st birthday ideas...

I used to love party planning but I've been out of the loop for a while! Haha!

I now have DD's 1st birthday quickly approaching (May 21st) and have no clue what to do. I'd like to stay under a $500 budget for 40-ish people (kids included). Other than that, I'm cluless.

I do have quite a few lime green things leftover from my son's birthday that I thought I could reuse and someone on another board mentioned a "garden party" idea along the lines of "April showers bring May flowers" which I think is a cute idea.

Can anyone help? I'm sooo lost it's not even funny...

Re: Girls 1st birthday ideas...

  • They served "dirt" at the last party that I went to where there were kids.  I thought it was sooo good and can't wait for the next kids party so that I can make it!

You can make it in a sand pail or a flower pot to make it go with the theme.  Here is the recipe, and within this they explain how to make it in the pail or pot.

  • I think the garden party idea is cute.  Pink goes well with lime green so you could grab some pink things to go along with what you have and make it a little more girly.  For the adults, I think a nicer salad bar with maybe some additional more substantial salads (like a grape almond chicken salad, pesto pasta salad, etc.) would be good for food.  With maybe some little sandwiches that are more kid friendly?  Or fruit salad would be good too.

You could make dirt cake and serve it in flower pots (either small individual ones or a few larger ones) with some kind of candy flower on top... that would look really cute and dirt cake is delicious!  You could also do cupcakes with either flowers made of frosting or little toothpicks with a paper flower on top.  Or a candy buffet using different sized flower pots, pails, or miniature watering cans.

I'm sure if you look at some of the entertaining blogs they'd have some good inspiration photos and ideas.

  • I really like the idea of a garden party.  Centerpieces could be pails with dirt and a few daisies.

I agree with PP on the pink and lime green color combo!

An alternative to the garden idea, could be going with an overall preppy look of pink and green polka dots and strips on everyting - ribbons, wrapping paper, etc.

    GL!

  • Oh duh! Why didn't I think of the "dirt cups" for dessert! My mom made those ALL THE TIME for me as a kid! What a great idea!

As for the entertaining blogs, like I said, I'm pretty out of the loop anymore. The only blog I remember is http://www.hostessblog.com/. If anyone could give me some other ideas or blogs to search, the would be wonderful.

I love the food ideas so far as well. Chicken salad sandwiches, pasta salad, kids cheese and turkey sanwiches. Love it! Anymore ideas for the menu? Drink recipes?

I'm thinking this may be a great party around 11-ish on a Sunday? WDYT?

  • I'm going a Pink & Green polka dot theme party for my daughter's 1st birthday.  Check out polka-dot-market.com and Polkadots & Pirates on FB.

  • i would be concerned that 40+ people would be overwhelming for a 1 year old. i would keep it simple.

if you do sandwiches, you can cut them with those fun sandwich cutters that take the crust off and cut in half in like 2 hearts or something. make them smaller for buffet style and funner.

for the garden party, gummy worms!
