When to prune roses?

I?m a little uncertain as to when I should be cutting back my roses. The temperatures were in the 60?s last week, but this week they?ve dipped into the 20?s and teens and we have snow. How much does it need to warm up before I cut them?

  • I'm in zone 6 and did it last week.
  • You want to wait until freezing temps are done. When you cut it, it tells it to grow. Within a week or two, it will send out new growth. You'll notice little red nodes, which will sprout new leaves. The new growth is delicate. I don't know which temp range is the best, but definitely when the new growth will not get snow.

  • I'm on the borderline of zones 6/7 and I did it over the weekend.  You're supposed to do it in late winter before new growth begins.
