Blueberries in Texas?

I bought a bush today with the kids, but didn't really understand they had acidic soil requirements and such. Has anyone had any luck growing blueberries in Texas? I'd love to hear how you did it

Re: Blueberries in Texas?

  • You'll need more than 1 bush if you want actual berries.

Test your soil and then amend to make sure your soil is acidic.

they do well in houston, there are several places where you can pick your own blueberries here.  from reading online, recommendations were to build a raised bed, or grow in large containers of just peat moss, no soil.  and as the other poster said, you need to grow multiple varieties for fruit, and it will take a couple years befoer they're big enough to really fruit well.
