Hey! I'm from Seattle and my DH and I are driving down to Portland for his job. April 12th to 16th. I'll pretty much be on my own all day till 5pm. I'll have a car and will be staying pretty close to down town...I think...at the Shilo Inn. Anyways, I was wondering if you ladies had any ideas of things to keep me occupied. I am not a big "just go walk around a park" person. I like to shop and I like museums. Also, restaurant recs for dinner would be great. Thanks!

Re: Visiting...things to do?
The Portland Art Museum is great and located downtown. There's also a mall not too far from there called Pioneer Place that has tons of great shops, plus a couple restaurants and a food court.
The Pearl District is a great area with art galleries and higher-end shops. NW 23rd St is also fabulous, as you can park the car and peruse up and down the street, it's lined with cute boutiques and coffee shops. You'll also want to check out Powell's books on Burnside - it's a massive bookstore with any book you can imagine. There's also an Anthropologie near by there, too!
Portland City Grill is very nice for a fancy-ish dinner and has a fabulous view of the entire city. They also have a good happy hour on Saturdays that starts at 4pm. It's a little on the pricey side, but a good way to see Portland. Henry's 13th St Tavern is also good, more reasonably-priced and their food is great.
If you want to venture south of Portland a few miles you can visit Bridgeport shopping center. They have some good restaurants and a Z Gallerie, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Coach, etc. And of course, no sales tax!!
