We moved into my house last year but landscaping fell by the way side. So I am determined to get my outside spruced up this spring/summer.
My question is about my front hillside. It is on about a 20-25 degree angle down slopping towards the house, we than have a bricked court yard in front of the house.
What plants or type of plants would you suggest planting on an angle like that? My neighbor told me the previous owners brought in a landscaper once and it was beautiful but 2-3 weeks later there was a rain storm and it all washed down the hill. I have found they put plastic under the top soil, so maybe that is the reason it ran off?
Also, I am hoping to do mostly (or all) perennials. Being realistic, when push comes to shove I don't see myself putting a ton or work or effort into gardening.
One last thing, my mom recommended using bluestoneperennials.com. Any insight into this site or any other site?
Re: First time posting in hopes to become a 'gardener' this spring
We have a 30 degree slope leading from our house to the bottom of our driveway. We put in a retaining wall, then a lawn in the flat bit past that, then mulch and plants. You should be able to put anything in as long as it has a chance to get established and the drainage is OK. Maybe you should talk to the landscaper about what happened with the last experience to see if new drainage needs to happen.
All of our stuff is perennials. We have a mix of trees, decorative grass, and shrubs.
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.

Maybe set up something like this, then you could probably plant whatever you like without worrying about it washing out.
