My 8 yr old niece/god daughter Ava went to the opthamologist today for a check up since she has been having headaches the past few months.
Ava was born with congenital bilateral cataracts (she's like 1 in 10,000 kids), between the cataract removal surgery at 1 month old and the lens replacement surgery she developed glucoma and had to have a shunt inserted into the one eye. After todays check up they found that the pressure in both eyes is elevated and she needs to go to philly to the Wills Eye institute to be checked out. This involves putting her under anesthesia to check the pressure and size of the eye and then they will either decide whether they can maintain the pressure with drops or if they will need to do surgery.
( I'm praying that she wont need another surgery and that there isn't much damage to her eye due to the pressure elevations. Please keep her in your prayers!
Re: Prayers pretty please :o/
Awwwww, T&Ps big time for her!!
Oh that's terrible. I'll definitely keep her in my T&Ps.
On a side note, my friend has always had problems with his eyes and he's been to Wills Eye institute but they have had to operate on his eye before and they are REALLY good doctors. So trust that they will find the best solution for her that they can come up with.
My dad has a lot of pressure in his eyes and I believe that's the glucoma but he's able to maintain it with drops and has for years. He has some pretty bad days with the pressure buildup but the drops really make those bad days few and far between.
