Best time of year to visit San Diego?

We are in the very planning of a family trip to San Diego for next year. We were thinking spring time but are not certain.  We want to be able to enjoy the beach, but also don't want everything to be too crowded.  TIA.

It will be too cold for the beach in the spring. The water is cold most of the year. But you will find the warmest weather in later summer-early fall, and the warmest water temps.

September is some of our best weather.  But sshhh, don't tell!  Then it'll be crowded in Sept too!

Ditto pps. Spring will be too cold. My favorite beach month is August - but there will definitely be crowds. I also agree that September might be your best bet for beach weather and less crowds.

My favorite months here are Sept and Oct.  Both very warm, no rain, and not as crowded as the summer months.

Agree with everyone above.  Spring will be beautiful here and less crowded but it is not the time of year for our beaches.  The beaches tend to be a lot cooler than inland and the water is freezing.  For best water temps July/Aug. but for less crowds spring would be great!
