Indoor herb gardens and pets

Anyone have both?  I'm just wondering how well this will work with 2 kitties who eat everything.  I'd obviously make sure the plants are safe, but I'd like to actually enjoy the herbs and not have them eat all of them, kinda defeats the purpose.

Re: Indoor herb gardens and pets

  • I have an aerogarden that I grow herbs in, and my cats haven't touched it.  : )
  • wow that looks awesome
  • Grow them one of their own with kitty stuff, so they leave yours alone!

  • Well, I don't have an indoor herb garden at the moment, but I did have to bring the 4 herb plants I bought inside because of suddenly freezing weather, and none of my three cats went after them.  I was shocked, since one of my cats has a ridiculous appetite for green growing things.  The plants are peppermint, spearmint, sage, and rosemary, for what it's worth.
  • I know exactly how you feel Izzybeth. I have the same problem with my kitty. No matter what I do, she eats everything! I did try netting one year and that worked ok until she figured out how to tear through it. Alas... no indoor garden for me :(

This is what I'm afraid of.  My little kitty is quite mischievous, energetic, and all around basically a kitten in a full grown kitty's body.  He eats everything, climbs on everything, and likes to knock stuff over.  I may try the aerogarden though, that looks promising.

  • I just keep mine on a table near a window. My kitty has her stations all set up at other windows, and we've 'trained' her stayed off the plant table and the kitchen table with a spray bottle. It also helps that I started with seeds, so she learned to stay off the table before there were great big green things there.
