Anyone knpw anything about antiques??

Hey girls,

Based on my last few posts, you can obviously tell that I'm trying to furnish my new home here in Elmhurst!  I've heard that there are a wealth of really nice antique shops in the west/northwest burbs, but can't seem to find them...

Has anyone gone antiquing around the area and have any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks!

Lauren

Re: Anyone knpw anything about antiques??

  • There used to be a few antique shops in Long Grove, but I don't live out there anymore so I can't confirm.

I've seen quite a few shops on Belmont Ave. in the city, between Damen and Western (Roscoe Village).  Been thinking about checking them out to see if I find anything potentially of interest, although DH and I's decorating style is more minimalistic/contemporary.

  • Hi Lauren,

Welcome to Elmhurst, I am a town over in OB. You will love Elmhurst they have a great downtown area. It really is a nice area, we thought about moving there awhile back.

On 31st street inbetween Lagrange Rd and 25th street I know there are about 3-4 antique shops. I have never been in any of them but they have been there forever.  From Elmhurst if were to take york (south) go Left (east) on 31st about 3-4 miles or so. The first shop is on the left (north) side of the street near the gas station on the corner of lagrange. Then before you go over the tracks on the south side of the street is another. Once you go over the tracks there are one on each side of the street in the next .25 miles.

HTH, let me know if you have any questions, or if you are looking for any gtg in the area! I only check this board every once in awhile so if i don't respond right away that is why!

  • Hi Bridget,

Thanks so much for the great information and the warm welcome!  The hubby got transferred out here b/c of work, and I don't know a soul.  I left my job back in NJ to move here, so not only do I not know my way around, but I'm sitting at home without work to keep me occupied!  Do any of the girls from the board get together around the area?  I'd love to meet new people!

    Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the info, Chi-Wine-Lady!

Our style is contemporary as well, but I occasionally like to throw in a few classic pieces where I can :)

  • There is an annual antiques show at the Kane County fairgrounds. I believe it's in October. Lots of "country" or "Americana" stuff but a few vendors with other stuff too.

  • There's a great antiques market/fair in Sandwich, which is about an hour west of you.  The fair is only once a month during the summer but there are also several shops in the area.  It's definatly worth the drive.  You can get more info at http://www.antiquemarkets.com/
