What are you growing in your garden?
I'm trying to decide what I want to grow in my garden this year. What are you planning to do?
I'm definitely planning to do green beans and okra. The strawberries should hopefully come back so I'll have those. I don't want to do corn or lettuce as I did those last year and it wasn't worth the effort in my opinion compared to how cheap it is at the store and the amount of space/effort it took.
I'm considering trying some peppers or squash again, although I didn't get any last year...so I don't know. I might do a pumpkin and watermelon plant or two again. I got one pumpkin last year and the watermelons froze before they were big enough due to all the rain.

Re: What are you growing in your garden?
Last year I did 3 lettuces, celery, eggplant, green beans, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and all the herbs I could get my hands on: basil, thyme, lemon thyme, cilantro, parsley, dill, rosemary, lavender, tarragon, oregano, sage...
The lettuces and the celery flopped, so I am omitting them this year.
Veggies: Green beans, english peas, jalapeno peppers, large and cherry tomatoes, spinach, 2 kinds of potatoes, yellow onions, sweet peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, sugar snap peas, and carrots.
Herbs: Thyme, rosemary, oregano, cilantro, and chamomile. I have a farmer's market friend who does great basil deals for me, and since I have to cut the whole plant to make pesto I don't see the benefit in growing it myself.
ETA: Similar to reply below we also based our choices on how much they cost at the store/farmer's market, the different in taste between grocery store and homegrown, how easy they are to grow, and how it can be stored (we can only do water bath canning and freezing). Sweet peppers are like $3 each at the grocery store so we're growing those. Onions and tomatoes from the grocery store have no flavor, so growing those. I *love* okra, I could eat it every day, but it doesn't freeze well and has to be pressure canned, so we didn't do that. We used a ton of frozen peas so we're doing those.
We decided what to grow based on three factors: how readily available it is (at the nearest grocery stores), how much it costs to buy it organic (esp for the "dirty dozen") and how much of it we'll eat, given the effort/space to grow. Many of the seeds are organic, but it's the growing process we are more worried about (we've also chosen many heirloom varieties).
green beans, snow peas, sugarsnap peas, raspberries
roma tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes (i forget the varieties), sweet peppers
basil, cilantro, chives, rosemary, sage, chamomile, mint, garlic
baby and jack o'lantern pumpkins
potatoes, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, spaghetti squash (we'll see how these guys do; never grown them before)
zucchini, beets, carrots, lettuces, kale
haven't decided yet:
broccoli, celery, cucumbers, sweet onions, green onions, gourds (deocrative), spinach, artichokes, and we might tackle asparagus
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
We have 3 4x8 beds in now, and will be building 3 more by May.
We have started in beds: spinach, 2x lettuce, radishes, carrots, turnips, potatoes.
Broccoli seeds are starting now, this w/e I'm starting tomatoes, peppers & cukes. We also have seeds for squash (summer & butternut), parsnips, celery, a few different onions, fennel and leeks.
We have a garden at my parents house. I had been trying to convince them for years to put one in and finally did it last year. In their defense, they had tried and failed miserably before! They're not ones to care so much about organic vs non-organic but J and I actually convinced them to go totally organic, for everything. And they loved it. I was shocked haha, and so proud!
Unfortunately I thnk my dad was a little overwhelmed last year because the tomatoes died and the lettuce and corn flopped too. This year, no corn. But we're gonna give lettuce one more shot. Last year we did beans but this year we're doing pole beans instead because of space.
so this is our plan: tomatoes, pole beans, lettuce, carrots, rhubarb, cucumbers, zucchini, summer squash, watermelon and pumpkins. We also have an herb garden with thyme, basil and sage.
We've got 3 kinds of tomatoes, a dwarf orange tree, brussel sprouts, romaine, radishes, cucumbers and strawberries. We've already eaten 3 strawberries so far!
All of ours are in pots...I have 2 dogs that would LOVE the buffet line of food, plus we don't really have a lot of room to plant in the ground or even put out a raised bed. So far (knock wood) everything seems to be growing really well!
We're attempting:
3 kinds of tomatoes, Italian sweet peppers, patio container lettuce mix, snap peas, and basil all from seed...we also might attempt rhubarb and carrots and green onions
Learning to start all over again... Blog
This is my first year, and I have gone hog wild. I was going to limit myself to 10 things, but that sure didn't happen!
In the ground now are cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, yukon gold potatoes, yellow onions, carrots, 4 types of lettuce, swiss chard, collard greens, beets, English peas, sugar snap peas and strawberries.
I have the plants started, but still inside for 3 types of tomatoes, jalapenos, bell peppers, and eggplant. Those will hopefully go in the ground this weekend.
I still have yellow squash, zuchini, bush beans, pole beans, cucumbers, and a crap ton of herbs to plant. Those will probably go in this weekend too.
Living in Arizona my backyard is mostly rock, so I decided to do a canister garden. I know for sure that I am going to plant green beans, but not sure what else to do....
Any recommendations?

I want to put in raspberry bushes. I can get them off my mom for free. And then plant a cherry (mini)tree.
For veggies: lettuce, green beans, peas, a few kinds of tomatoes, dill, cilantro, chives, oregano, carrots, a few kinds of potatoes, garlic.
I'm super excited to have room for potatoes this year. I love fresh garden baby potatoes - store ones can not compete.
Planted already: Broccoli, Kale, Watermelon, Muskmelon, Sugar Pumpkin, Bell Peppers, Tomatoes (3 varieties), Eggplant, Zucchini, and Cucumber.
Still to plant: Carrots, spinach, beans (3 varieties), peas (2 varieties), and onions (2 varieties).
Last year we got beans- that's it! We planted lettuce, carrots, peas, onions, and beans. It was a failure.
This year I'm starting earlier and did more research before planting. Broccoli and Kale have already sprouted!!!
ETA: I also intersperse flowers and herbs among the plants. I haven't settled on what ones to grow this year, though I expect it'll include basil, oregano, rosemary and parsley, plus petunias, nasturtiums and marigolds.
We have 3 raised beds that are 5'x25'. It's a LOT of growing space! I'm still going thru last year's onions.
