Re: I am doing a Safari/Jungle 1st birthday and need ideas...

  • How about...

Safari hats for the kids.  Have jungle/animal sound music playing.  Serve the food on large leaf shaped placemats, bright colored bowls, use a coconut/pineapple for a centerpiece with a few flowers in it.  Theme each table to an animal; a lion, monkey, hippo, tiger, parrot.

  • We did a survivor/jungle themed baby shower and had decorated animal cookies as favors.  Those would be cute as a favor or as a desert option, especially for the kids.  I think we used a monkey, lion, frog... it was a varied cookie cutter set and had some fun ones in there!

I like the pineapple idea and you could also serve pineapple either on skewers with teriyaki(sp) marinated chicken or do a jungle themed fruit salad with pineapple, mango, and some other colorful melons.

My friend did a jungle themed nursery and I found a ton of stuff for her at target in the dollar section.  I know what they have varies... but it was right around spring time when I found the stuff.  There were cute things like monkey notepads.  I'm sure oriental trading would have a ton of stuff as well.

This sounds wonderful! You could serve drinks in coconuts as well.

  • A few weeks ago, I went to Kohl's and they had a jungle collection. It was on sale, so I am not sure if it is still around... I got some interesting things from the collection.
  • banana-y foods  for the little monkeys. banana splits, banana cream pie

barrel of monkeys is a cheap way to get monkeys that will hang on the side of the cups for the grown ups.

i like the animal crackers or animal cookies idea.

  • we did a dora theme one year and got the kids the straw hat/binocular set from Oriental Trading - HUGE hit!

A scavenger hunt would be fun! I have also seen cute blow up monkeys @ the party store to hang from the trees...
