Time of day for housewarming party?

Are these typically afternoon-type affairs (like showers) or more like cocktail parties?  Or are they more like an "open house" type event?  HW parties aren't common where I grew up, so this is a first for me.
This is my siggy.

Re: Time of day for housewarming party?

  • I'm not sure what the norm is but we are having ours at 4pm and it's an open house type.
  • We did ours at 1pm, but we had it on a Sun. bc my DH works Sat. I would not want to put it too late on a Sun.
  • We had ours at 1pm, open house style

  • We'll be doing ours around 1 as well, open house style with appetizers and BBQ for dinner around 5 for those that stay/come that late.

  • I think it all depends of what type of HW party you want to host.  I've been to HW's before that were very formal - evening, coctails, h'orderves, etc.  I've been to open house - stop by when you can, 12-5, very casual.  I've been to BBQ and beer bashes....  It is up to you and should reflect your style.  I will say that I have fun no matter what type of party it is!
