surprise party?

My husband will be turning 40 in August and I wanted to have a surprise party for him because he has never had that for him, but I am not sure how to organize it,etc. Anyone have any ideas? He is someone who finds out surprises so I want the bash to really surprise him without him figuring it out. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. It would be a great help.

Re: surprise party?

  • Figure out what he really enjoys and go from there.  If all else fails, you can rent out a private room at a restaurant or have all of his friends/family meet at his favorite bar.  Generally speaking, it should be about the people he loves celebrating his birthday with him, not about the 40 part.  Also, only do this if he's the type to actually enjoy a surprise.  Some people love them and some don't.
  • One thing we did for my dad was had it a month early so he had no idea.  And got in contact with friends and family from out of state that he hadnt seen in a while.  And for my brother we once got a baby picture blown up to a persons face size and then cut them out and put them on sticks.  So we all held them over our faces when he came in.  It was so funny!
  • I'd enlist a friend or family member who can take over the planning for you--the further you are from it, the harder it will be for him to figure out.  And throw him off the trail by asking if he wants to go out of town for his bday...tell him you'll take care of the reservations, etc. but have him pack a suitcase for a weekend away (just the two of you).  He'll be super surprised when your romantic weekend for two turns into a full blown surprise party.
  • Though I do not have a specific idea to share, I came across http://www.buzzle.com/articles/unusual-birthday-surprise-ideas.html while searching some ideas. See if it helps.
  • My family had a surprise party for me once and then planned something for me for a week later, I thought if I was having a party that the "decoy" date might be the day it would happen, and I was totally surprised!

    my family did this too!

my bffs bday is a few days after mine, so he suggested that me and him have a joint party the next weekend. so i was not expecting my surprise party the weekend before.

mine was at a pizza place, i thought it was just my bf and me, i didnt even notice my family's cars in the parking lot or them sitting, near the windows when we walked up. but i was super surprised.

  • I hosted a surprise birthday for DH this past Friday.  Decorations were hidden in the house with some ordered items having been sent to a nearby friends house.  I took the day off work and enlisted help.   DH watched me leave as always for the day- I returned after he was out of the neighborhood.  He came home to find our house transformed into a pirate ship with friends arriving throughout the evening. (easier to do than trying to have everyone be ontime after a work day)

If you don't have your on bank account pfilfer money, send all emails to work, and designate a friend for phonecalls.  Surprise parties are super fun for all!
