Hi ladies ...
Just looking for some intelligent opinions on this:
I work as a 'mothertongue' teacher at an Italian school. The only qualification needed is that you be a native English speaker. Apparently, being Irish, I just about qualify (British accents preferred). I've been told that for an Irish person my accent is 'really quite good', whatever that means.
Anyway, the racism thing. The other 'mothertongue' (I know) is a black girl from London. Several teachers who work with her have complained to me that she doesn't speak 'proper English' because she has 'an African accent' (just for the record: she has a London accent).
Nobody here seems to think this is a big deal. But it is?racist, isn't it?
BTW, I always feel I need to reintroduce myself because I'm away for so long .. formerly known as Calla.?
