need help with wording for a POPEYE themed INVITE!

Decided to do a Popeye themed birthday for my sons 1st birthday!

Since Popeye is a very old soul ... there is not much out there for decoration, theme, etc ... but I did find some great stuff on Etsy and Ebay ...

Having a hard time with the WORDING for an invite now ... Popeye's catch phrases were "I YAM WHAT I YAM" and "I'm strong to the finish, 'cause I eats me Spinach, I'm Popeye the sailor man!" ... how can I make that into a 1 year old invite????

Thanks ladies!

PS .. any other ideas you have for this theme, please let me know!! I know there are some wonderfully creative girls out there and I appreciate it VERY much!

  • I did picture invites from Walmart.  You could put some popeye pics on there and write "I yam what I yam and I yam ONE!"  Then have the details.

Of course you need to have some sort of spinach thing for food.  A nice spinach salad or casserole or quiche.

  • I'd go mostly with a nautical theme with Popeye touches if I were you- anchors, rope, boats.  You could do boat races in a baby pool, rope ring toss and maybe have a hidden anchor charm in the cake?

Then, for food, do quiche or a salad with spinach, and use spinach cans and olive oil bottles for decor.   Also, do something with Popeye's muscles--- maybe the smash cake for the baby?!

  • cute theme. i would so take a photo of my kid in a sailor suit covered in baby food spinach (or anything green) and use that. but i am strange that way.

you can find some ideas here i am sure

i think anchors and big wheels would be cute.

  • "Well, blow me down! Our little Swea' Pea is toinin' one" ("toinin'" is how Popeye pronounces turning, like "goil" for girl).

I think this is really cute.  I wondering if you could find fake anchors tattoos for any older children attending.

  • i love the idea of popeye!

my concern with 1st birthdays is always that the kids ive seen have been overwhelmed, i dont think that games are appropriate, and will be more for the adults entertainment than the kiddos'. in my family parents tend to stick to smaller parties with food, cake and presents. not games or other time fillers.

but you can go wild with decorations and stuff.

ooh ooh ooh, if youre doing goodie bags, recycle tin cans, make fake spinach lables for them, cover the cut edge for safey and design a fake cut off top to attach (metalic scrapbooking paper cut in a cirlce and shaped into the classic still partly attached can top), have all the goodies inside that with green shredded paper for filler, thats what i would do if i was doing a kids popeye party!
