Hi,

I saw from another post that you had suggested Milk and Sugar as a fun place to have a baby shower....do  you live in the area? DH and I are waiting to here back about an offer we put in on a house appx 5 blocks away, however, we're alittle hesitant now that we heard about the shooting of the 16 year old boy this morning. Would you say that the area is unsafe for a young family starting out with their first home? We have a 20month old son and really dont want to buy in an area where "shootings" and "gang related activity" are the norm. Any info you have on the area is greatly appreciated!

TIA

~Dana

  • Hi Dana,

Sorry it took so long. I actually live in N. Babylon. Bay Shore is a very mixed community & the thing with Bay Shore is it all depends on the area. Anything S of Montauk, Brightwaters area and most neighborhoods around the town are nice.

The "Shooting" was Bay Shore in Brentwood Schools which is a totally different area. Which is the part of Bay Shore you really want to stay away from, that's where you have the "gang related activity".

    I hope this helps.

  • On Century 21's real estate website, you can get community info which talks about income, racial makeup, rent vs. own, etc.  If you go to Newsday.com, there is a section where you can research about schools and they give stats on the percentage of graduates that go to college, take advanced courses, etc.
