Possibly relocating, a ? for you all!
Hi! My H and I are thinking about relocating to Chicago. I have a job which will start July 1 if I want to take it. I would make a considerable amount more than I do now. DH is worried that he will have trouble finding a job. Can you tell me what the job market is like there? He is in IT, as a network admin currently but he just finished his MBA.

My DH is a software engineer, and he has been looking for a job passively for almost a year and very actively for the last few months. He says the IT job market has definitely started to get better in the last six months or so, but it's still not great. There are a reasonable number of jobs available, but many are expecting to pay new employees less than in the past because they know people are desperate for jobs. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice! He's worried that he'll have to take a job that he doesn't want or a pay cut from what he's at now, but we knew that would be a possibility. That's just one of the risks you take when you move I guess!

The job market here is pretty bad. People who have been laid off and are looking for a new position typically wait 9 - 15 months to find something new & when they do its typically with a pay cut.
IT is tough too. That's my husbands field and he was never able to find a position for the first 2-3 years after he graduated (which happened to be right after the tech wreck) so he stuck with his job now.
I recommend he start looking a.s.a.p.
