POLL about meat: How often?

Re: POLL about meat: How often?

  • We went vegetarian in July and are very happy with it.  Before then, we'd been slowly cutting meat our of our diet for several years.  We were down to 1-2 times a week, strictly meat from the Farmer's Market.  So we decided to cut it out all together.  Beans and tofu rock! (She says with a mouth full of an Indian chickpea dish called Channa Masala).

  • Usually between 2 and 5 meals per week. (I clicked 3-4).

  • We just switched from having "Meatless Mondays" and "Vegan Night" to having 2 meat days each week and going veggie the rest of the time. It works for us.

  • why doesn't fish count?

  • My poll, my rules, lol.

Maybe it comes from a religious childhood where no meat happened at various times throughout the year but fish was allowed. ;)

I don't count fish mainly because it doesn't have the same environmental impact as meat does.

  • Overfishing has a HUGE environmental impact. Much more so than I ever would have thought. Check out the book Bottomfeeder by Taras Grescoe.

ETA: Not just overfishing, but fish farms as well. Very scary stuff

  • I am vegan at least 95% of the time.  DH is an omnivore, but knows that I will not prepare meat for him.  On rare occasion I will have sustainable wild-caught fish or free range organic eggs if there is no other protein source available at the time, or if DH requests it.  I never have dairy, as I am extremely lactose intolerant anyway, and the thought of it makes me nauseous.
