Random: Was this too expensive?

Okay, this is random. But I feel dumb and need other's perspectives.

We had a focus group meeting today at lunch (I work for a non profit). Originally we weren't going to provide lunch because our budget is super super tight these days. One of our volunteers offered to pay for pizza for the group, and we took her up on the offer. This morning, we were going to have 8 people in the meeting. I ordered two large pizzas (with one topping on each) for $19 this morning. It was another $3 for tax and delivery (I didn't have time to pick it up) and I added a $3 tip to it. $25.00 total. I paid with my credit card and sent the receipt to the volunteer who offered to pay.

After ordering, 3 people cancelled. We had 5 people in the meeting, and my boss's kids came by and ate almost all of one pizza. Boss thinks the pizza was astronomically expensive, and is planning on ripping up the check that the volunteer wrote. Boss gave me $20 of her own money to pay for part of the pizza. She didn't want volunteer to pay $25 for the slice of pizza she ate.

I don't buy pizza, so I have no idea what the going rate is. It didn't seem all that crazy to me (especially when there was going to be 8 people in the meeting) and I ordered from a chain place. So...was I totally out of line with my pizza purchase?

It's dumb, I know. I should have just picked it up and saved $4.50 I guess (delivery and tip).

Re: Random: Was this too expensive?

  • Oh please. $25 is astronomically expensive for pizza?

    Confused

  • Your boss apparently doesn't order pizza enough and she sure as hell should've given you money if her kids came and ate it all!
  • That is crazy!  We actually pay about that much for ONE pizza delivered, due to the toppings we get and the fact that I normally tip $4-$5.
  • That's not expensive to me- don't worry about it :)

  • Unless you go and pick pizza up at Little Caesars (where it's $5 each) then what you paid is about par for the course.

Pretty unhelpful and unrelated but anytime you're downtown and need pizza, you should try Mellow Mushroom.  They aren't a budget place but the pizza is wonderful!

  • Thanks for reading my book everyone :) I'll remember Mellow Mushroom next time--I've been wanting to try that place!

  • Mellow Mushroom is INCREDIBLE!! It's DH's and my favorite pizza place.

Like the other girls said, $25 for two large 1 toppings, tax, and tip is good. Pizza Hut right now is offering $10 larges with any toppings and I think that's a steal. Normally you'd need a coupon to get the price you paid for 2.

  • You didn't pay too much. Pizza companies always have something going.

And Mellow Mushroom- somebody order me a Kosmic Karma pizza!
