Moto GP

Hi Indiana nesties!

My H and I are planning an Indianapolis trip in August for the motogp race.  I saw that buses are used for transportation around there.  Are they preferred over cars?  I know that might sound like a silly question, but they have buses down in here in Tampa, but it's easier to get around in a car.  We only plan to be in IN for 3 nights and would rather take mass transit than rent a car, if it's easier.

Also, does anyone know of any hotels maybe within walking distance of the track?

TIA!

Re: Moto GP

  • During the bigger races (Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400) I know the public buses will be used for transportation because so many people come to town for the race and no one wants to sit in traffic.  There are certain routes that are virtually shut down during race time to allow for traffic head to/from the track.  That said, I think it would be much easier to rent a car and drive yourself.  There are a few motels within walking distance to the track, but by walking distance you're looking at a few miles each way.  There are some nice hotels on the outskirts of downtown Indy that may have shuttles that run to the track on race day.  You may want to check into that.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  I live less than 4 blocks from the track and can give you some insight if needed.
  • Where are you staying? You might check and see if of the hotels are providing shuttle.

  • The Brickyard Crossing Hotel is right next door.  Nice golf course there too is you golf.

Where the heck have I been?

I don't think there are any others within walking distance, so I would see if any of them are providing a shuttle to the race.

If you are wanting to be downtown, the Omni usually has good pricing.

  • Overall I would say cars are the more preferred option, but public transit isn't too bad and I think there might be more bus routes during GP. If you aren't staying downtown, there isn't too much in walking distance and the buses could take you forever. I would recommend a car.
Move along, nothing to see here.....
