help! my large area rugs smell like dog pee
how do i clean them effectively without fumigating my house with toxic chemicals?
Re: help! my large area rugs smell like dog pee
Equal parts vinegar and water
Mix and use to remove tough stains including grass, perspiration, rust, jam, coffee, orange juice, wine, beer, ketchup, barbeque sauce, chili, urine and pet stains.

This is what i do. Lots of baking soda, fold the rug in half (so it doesn't get tracked all over) and let sit for a few hours, then vacuum. My dog has "claimed" the living room rug, and it gets stinky. No pee, just general smelliness. She once threw up on it and after wiping up what i could i put a towel under it and doused it with vinegar-water and it came clean. This may work for you, too. For a hand-knotted or other quality rug, though, i would contact a rug dealer.
