Vent...I need aging cream

I always see commercials for anti-aging cream and always make the comment that I need the opposite of that.

I KNOW I look horribly young, and I just have no idea what to do about it.  I try to dress more professionally, try different hair styles...it's just not going to work. I have a baby face.

I KNOW it's supposed to be a compliment that people think I'm younger than I am, but honestly when other adults come into school and I introduce myself as a math teacher, they freak out and say things like "Really?! I would have put you as one of the kids. Probably a sophomore at max!" As in they think I'm 16 AT THE OLDEST. That's not a compliment. That's offensive. And then they just keep going ON AND ON about how YOUNG I look. Thanks.

I need to calm down. I need to forget about it, but it REALLY gets to me, and I end up crying about it at least once a school year. This just gets to be that day, I guess Sad

Thanks for listening. GAHHHHHHHHHH!

Re: Vent...I need aging cream

  • I feel for you...really do.  The worst is when you tell them your age and then they give you the "oh you'll appreciate it when you're older"  How about no I won't jerkface!  The final straw for me was when I was in Vegas a couple years ago and got asked if I wanted crayons with my kiddy menu.  Seriously?  I should have taken the crayons and the cheaper bill but I was miffed!  It does eventually stop...in fact, the past year I don't think I've been carded once!  BUT I still get asked if I'm my boss's daughter.  "is that your daddy" Uh no!
  • Oh I understand! I have had the same experience my WHOLE life. :) At 26 years old I am finally beginning to appreciate it. Honestly that's because when I look in mirror and am applying my makeup, I can see where my future wrinkles will be coming in. LOL. That's the honest to God truth. I know I won't look like this forever, so I am just soaking it all in NOW. hahaha. I'm sorry it makes you so upset! I can understand that. If I was in the same position as you it would bother me a lot more than it does now. Just... try to ignore them. They don't understand that their comments aren't nice.

This exactly!  I agree, it can be tough.  It definitely takes my clients awhile to take me seriously.  They never say anything but I can tell it's because they think I'm like 12.  A couple of years ago I stopped to buy a pack of cigarettes and got in a serious argument with the cashier.  He insisted my ID was fake and I couldn't be a day over 16.  I finally told him to call the police then and I would wait.  He gave me the cigarettes but said he still didn't believe me.

Tammy - I went to brunch with my parents a few years ago on Easter and was charged as a kid.  I was offended but at the same time - SCORE!  Then the same thing happened maybe 2? years ago I went to a movie with my dad.

ETA:  Oh and I ALWAYS get carded of course.  After I do, DH will reach for his ID and almost every time is told "I don't need to see yours".  LOL!

  • *smacking Laura around*

I used to have this issue and would love to have it again! Don't worry time, a husband and kids will make you age really fast

This is totally me and DH!!

    Anniversary
  • I got this for years.  I actually got carded for cigarettes on my 30th birthday.  (That was probably the best gift I could have ever gotten :) In the last few years, I've started to look older and greatly appreciate that I still look younger than most people my age.  At work, people still think I'm in the 26-28 year old range and are usually shocked to find out that I'm in my mid-30s.  Give it a few years and you probably will appreciate it even though you don't think so now.
  • i feel your pain!  sometimes i wonder what people think when they see jake and i together.  hugs!

  • Oh I know someday it will make me happy instead of frustrated and sad....today I was just sad. I was thinking about when Paul and I decide to have kids...walking around with him I'm sure people are going to think that this 30 year old knocked up some teenager. But I'm (a tiny bit) older than him! Ha...oh well...

  • Trust me it will be fine.  When I was pregnant with my oldest I drove a little 2 door sports car.  Well I pulled into the parking lot of a shopping center and had two teenage boys checking me out.  Their reaction when I climbed out of the car 7 months pregnant was pretty funny.

  • I feel your pain girl...I get carded all the time.  I'm turning 29 next week and legal age here is 18.  Sigh.
