OB/GYN Waiting Room Time...what is too long to wait?

Today I had an appointment with a new OB/GYN.  This is my first time with an OB/GYN in Chicago, I had been using my Internist for general exams.   To see the doctor the DH and me waited over 50 minutes to be called by a nurse and then waited another half-hour to actually speak to the doctor.  We were only there to have a conversation, so it was not an emergency but seemed way too long to wait and we were not warned ahead of time.  We almost walked out.  I understand that these doctors have emergencies with their pregnant patients, but I'd rather be pushed for an emergency then to spend two hours (with no warning) to see the doctor.   Do you guys suffer the same waits with your OB/GYNs for non-emergency appointments?  Mine was affiliated with Northwestern, is this typical?  If you have short waits, who is your doctor?

Re: OB/GYN Waiting Room Time...what is too long to wait?

  • I had my first appointment at my new OB/GYN a few weeks ago and I was there for about an hour and ten minutes. I arrived about 10 minutes early before my 9:00 appointment and was finished with my exam and question session by 10:00. I felt like it was an appropriate time span with minimal waiting. I also really liked the facility and the doctor. It was NYE Partners on N. Michigan. I saw Dr. Ray and she is afflilated with Northwestern Memorial.

Good luck with wherever you find!

  • The last time I went to see mine it was just for a talking appt to change my BCP, but I waited in the waiting room for 40 minutes & then waited another 30 mins in the room for him to come in.  I was beyond annoyed, especially since I had to leave work early to make the appt.  So yeah I would say its typically because of emergencies and what not.  But i feel your pain girl!
  • Thanks for the reco!  I'll have to check out Dr. Ray the next time I need an appointment.

  • I think the most I've ever had to wait was like 15 min.
