Random: What's your preference?

Dan and I have this "argument" when we go grocery shopping all the time. For sandwiches and general snacking, I prefer the turkey from Hillshire Farms that is already packaged because it's super finely sliced and delicious. He think it's disgusting since it's wet and comes in a container. He thinks the turkey sliced directly from the deli is superior. Now, I'd get it if it were just a taste preference, but is it common thought that prepackaged meats are subpar?? I'm not talking the cheapy, half byproduct/chemicals stuff. It's Hillshire Farm's 99% fat free turkey and it costs 5 bucks for the little thing! I doubt it's a pound and it is probably similiar cost wise when it comes to $ per lb.

So what about you? Do you prefer the deli meat or prepackaged meat? Do you look down on the sad people who eat wet meat in a tub?

Re: Random: What's your preference?

  • I buy the little tubs.
  • i like wet meat.

  • Back when I ate meat, I couldn't stand anything but the fresh sliced stuff.  MH is the same way.  I tried buying the tub stuff and he said it was "wet."  Ha!

  • I want to say that I read somewhere that unless it is the Boar's Head turkey from the deli isn't that much better quality than the tub stuff.

  • Back when I used to buy meat, I always got it from the tub.  Now I buy tofurkey which is packaged as well.

  • I typically spend a little more for Boar's Head. Yum.

  • I buy the tub stuff.
  • I always buy at the deli.  At our store the prices seem much better and I like the taste better.
  • I don't eat it but I buy the boar's head deli stuff for MH.  I'm not a fan of the smell of the packaged kind.  ::barf::

  • I don't eat either, but for the kid's sandwiches, I will buy the prepackaged meat.
  • I buy the tub because its cheaper but prefer the deli. I hate the wet kind of prepackaged though, some are more gross than others so I try and stay away from those ones.
  • I buy whatever is cheapest.  H buys the same as nabum.
  • I buy whatever's cheapest.

  • I get the packaged kind from Trader Joes.

I think it's really just a matter of preference.  I think the packaged kind has more sodium though.

  • I spend a little more for the deli.

  • I much prefer the stuff from the deli counter.
  • Deli. It always tastes fresher to me.

    LOL Wan!

I like the tubs to and we actually buy that same brand..it's wet but fine with us.

We also buy this tub of turkey from Costco that has some sort of lite seasoning around the edge of the meat and that stuff is to die for.

We've used it at parties for mini sandwich rolls and/or regular sandwiches for home and work. We have received so many compliments and requests wanting to know where we buy it from. It's about $13/$14 for the tub, but it like over 2lbs of turkey.

That stuff is so good.  MIL only buys that now.

  • I don't eat a lot of lunch meat, but I tend to like the taste of deli meats better.

Honestly, as long as it's not  Carl Buddig lunch meat that my mom fed us growing up, I'm okay.

That Carl Buddig sh!t tastes like poverty.
