There's a discussion on the Bump Baby Names board that made me laugh. Someone was saying they don't want to name their daughter a "serious" name like Elizabeth (there were other examples, this one just stuck out to me for obvious reasons) because she didn't expect her daughter to be a doctor or lawyer.
LOL, I had no idea I had "serious" name. It's classic and timeless unlike the crap that is "Nevaeh" or "Shithead" and whatever else people make up. Yes, my friend's mom has a Shithead in her kindergarten class.
P.S. Sorry if anyone here was planning on a Nevaeh, but I think it's pretty off the wall.
Re: OMG Baby Names board
This exactly! Who doesn't want their child in a high paying profession? Who else is going to pay to me put me in a retirement home when I'm old?
Yeah, that is just depressing. (On a side note: I watched the Duggar wedding special last night, those people are freaking scarey. They kept talking about who gets "possession" of the women, eeeeeek . . .)
I watched that too! Well, just the first 10-15 min or so. BUT, it was freaking me out. When they did a flashback to show him proposing to the girl, and then they just did this platonic hug type of thing? Weird. No kissing until the wedding? I had to turn it off when Jim Bob gave the son those "birds and bees" books.
Ugh! No way....and D thought he was being original with Shithead...I will have to tell him that.
IMHO, people get a little out there with names and then other people get to judgemental about it. Like the baby names board will go apeshit on someone for tossing in an extra letter or whatever. Yeah, it's dumb but it's not their kid so why do they even care.
I agree though...Elizabeth is timeless and classic and there are plenty of ways to change it up for a child.
Ditto Karrey-I think it's timeless and classic, but also...
Lizzie Borden-didn't she kill some people? or was it a 'nursery rhyme' type of thing? Yep... (there's a pic below if it doesn't show...
My middle name is Elizabeth, its a family name. I DO have a cousin named Elizabeth who is a lawyer but the rest of the E's are other things that are not as "serious" I guess.
I really can't stand "made up" names. I like original names but I don't like people who just throw some syllables together and call it a name. Ugh.
This is what caught my attention... who wouldn't want their child to grow up with big dreams?
I think Elizabeth is a beautiful little girls name. If it was too "serious" for a child you could always call her "Eli", "Liz", "Lizzy" or even Beth.
To me, giving your child a name that works against them is a form of child abuse. Now, I am the last person to say let's all choose from the same 100 names...(yawn)...but Shithead? REALLY? That is just cruel. You should automatically go on some kind of CPS watchlist for that shiz.
Name your kid Wednesday, Friday, Sunday (real). Name your kid Sir Elwyn Lord Dalthard (real). Name your kid Trout Fishing in America (real). But, good lord, don't name them Shithead or Female or [Insert Stripper Name Here, such as Cinnamon].
I'm telling you, I should be given the authority to sterilize people. Where's my ray gun?
This made me laugh because my sister is an Elizabeth...and an attorney!
But honestly. Why would you NOT want your kid to be a doctor or a lawyer? We picked Hunter because A: We liked it and B: Its a good name for sports players..we fully expect him to be a successful baseball player and support us in style.
Perfect! LOL!
agreed!!
I love the name Elizabeth--was my Granny's middle name (her first name was Edith-ugh!)...
and ditto ray gun!
You have my vote!
Lol this was my great grandma's middle name. I didn't find out until she died this past summer that her first name was really Rebecca. She hated Rebecca and would only use Edith as her name.
My nannie's name is Olga. I think it's awesome, but I don't think I'll be naming my daughter after her. My grampie called her Olive sometimes, that could be cute . . .
My nannie's name is Olga. I think it's awesome, but I don't think I'll be naming my daughter after her. My grampie called her Olive sometimes, that could be cute if it wasn't the only food my dad hated.
Wacko baby names are a huge pet peeve of mine . . . that was part of the struggle with picking Bebe's name to begin with.
Truth be told though, we ended up finding a website that listed stripper names . . . thats where we got her name from.
And what the heck is wrong with that woman??? Geesh!
Haha, yes, she murdered her parents. She was THAT serious.
No one has called me Lizzie for a very long time, so I think my parents are safe at this point.
For the record, I have long loved the name Elizabeth and it is on my girl list for Baby JB. Waiting to see what DH comes up with.
A little girl at our church was baptized last week and her name was Neveah. DH was not impressed.
I once worked with a girl who name was Heaven. Middle Name: Leigh. No, I'm not kidding.
Since I work in a low income area, we have all kinds of names that are just ridiculous. The sad thing is, some of them can't even spell their names right because they're so different. I have one named Jy'Keria who can't ever remember where to put the worthless apostrophe. We have a boy named Cilver, a few girls named Richous (righteous), Trezure, ...just some sad names for these kids.
My middle name is Elizabeth and I've always loved it. We like it for a girl to call her Libby. One of my favorites. AND she'll be a spinal surgeon!
Awwwwwwwwwe I love the name Edith, Its on my list for girls. Ihad a friend in 2nd grade named Edith and I remember her being sooo pretty. She had this golden brown hair that was always in two braids. So I associate that name with her face. I think its pretty
And I love the name Elizabeth...and there are so many nick names that can spawn from that, so who cares if its "serious" people are tards.
