Our budget since the wedding...
I am so proud of us! I know it's bad but before we got married we never really saved a ton of money... just a little here and there when we felt we could.
But since the wedding we've put ourselves on a tight budget and our savings has grown so much! I never realized how much I was spending on lunch and clothing and all my girly things like nails and hair.
Just felt like sharing... I don't know if anyone else cracked down after they got married with their budget.
Re: Our budget since the wedding...
We have as well. It's so great to see your savings grow - although I do miss my mani and pedi's sometimes! I have always been a saver but cracked down when we got married because we were wasting money on things we didn't really need.
Good job to the two of you!
Girl I miss my mani/pedi's too... I still get them but just not as much.
That was the one good thing about growing up in the North... from October - February there was no real need for a pedicure every 2 weeks. No one can see your feet in snow boots!
Yea we cracked down too! I've become a coupon clippin maniac It has saved us on average close to $200 a month. Last month over the course of two shopping visits I saved $176 alone and spent $75 total (there is a method to the coupon madness). I just love seeing the $ saved on food...the pantry is stuffed to the giles..I feel like I've robbed Publix everytime I go....
We're fortunate enough to be close to our jobs, so we go home for lunch and save there, no more mani/pedi's, I do them myself. I could not compromise the beauty shop...but I've started getting my hair braided again (3 months with and 3 months w/o ) so I've saved with the bi-weekly visits when my hair is worn permed, then when I have them (at least one visit per month is knocked off and one touch-up is saved )....
I've restricted myself from going to Malls at this time (no control just yet) but I did go last week with the hubby since he's better at control then me..LOL and spent only $50 for 3 outfits at Ann Taylor's loft. I caught a great sale that day plus they were giving an additional 45% off of sale items
OK I wrote a novel...just excited...can't you tell....for me, saving has been addictive....
Ooh forgot to mention that we've been trying with 80% success to take our savings from grocery shopping and other things and put the amt saved in our saving account. For the most part, we have been consistent with it, but sometimes, we just realize the savings and that's it....
We have cut down on things that we realized were adding up to way more than they were worth, such as eating out at restaurants too often and going out to movies for example. It's way more healthy to cook at home and so much cheaper! Now, we make eating out at a restaurant a real treat and try to only do it once or twice a month.
We also try to buy whatever we can in bulk at Sam's Club ....saves on gas and for the most part, it's cheaper than Publix.
I have also been trying very hard to only buy clothes that are on sale and only when I really need something new
Good for you!
I think getting married makes you look to the future more. We got married in college and while other people lived in nicer apts and were buying video games and new cars, we saved all we could. It was definitely hard at the time, but we were able to buy our first home right out of college, and we're really proud of that! Now I look back and know that it was SO worth it!
Yeah... About that budget thing... You're not alone. We've been cutting down a whole bunch. I never realized how much fun we were having going out drinking, partying, eating dinner, etc. It was great to have no actual bills.
Now that we are living on our own and have actual bills plus all the added bills that getting married and moving into a new home adds, we have put ourselves on a tighter budget. But I'm kind of glad we have because now I realize I dont' need to waste so much money.
I'll be more mindful before i waste money after this whole first year marriage crunch goes away and we see our savings go up.
