parties to host- ideas?

Can anyone suggest a fun party to host in my home? A friend of mine did a Pampered Chef one and is having a scentsy one soon... another is doing a Mary Kay one so i am trying to avoid doing the same. Any suggestions? TIA.

Re: parties to host- ideas?

  • I sell Tastefully Simple products, and we do at-home parties.  You could also consider a "Purse Party"....I've had a few of those in the past...a rep comes out with knock-off purses (that look close to original) and displays them around your house and friends can browse the merchandise.  These usually include some jewelry and accessories as well!  Of course, if you're friends are more "risque", you could host a Pure Romance party...

    GL, and have fun!!

  • Why not just host a party that isn't a stupid sales pitch?

Once upon a time, people just invited each other over for dinner and drinks and didn't try to sell them crap while they were there.

I prefer the "I simply enjoy your company" invites over the "I'd really like to make some money/get free stuff" ones.

    Word.

If you want a theme, do a Kentucky Derby party, Roaring 20s, whatever.

    Preach it.

  • I've always thought a fondue party would be fun.

  • I liked doing themed parties and building my menu, signature cocktails, etc. around that theme.  Dressing up is going a step too far for me, but I'd be all about donning a Derby for a KY Derby party.

    Agreed!

The next party I want to host is a Julie and Julia movie party.  I want to serve some fun French food and wine.  I'm still working out the details and date.

  • We throw a beer tasting every year... it's not super structured- we just have everyone bring a 6 pack of beer they've never had before.  We have snacks like a pretzel bar, beer bread, cheese & crackers, etc.  Also, I give out prizes for beer with weirdest name, beer from farthest away & beer that everyone likes best.  It is a huge success!

You could also do a Rockband theme if you have the game -- it is a great party game.  Could serve the food in homemade vinyl record bowls.

My roomate and I used to throw a "fondue or don't" party.  We made cheese and chocoalte fondue, and people had to bring a dippable item to share.  It was well received...and pretty awesome.

Our other favorite party was "Pancake-a-rama" where we had people over for brunch and they were asked to bring htier favorite pancake batter additive or topping.  Awesome.

This sounds awesome!  I'm so stealing this idea, thanks! :)

  • passion parties are always fun ! lingerie, sex toys, drinks, friends...always a good time Drinks
  • Yeah parties where you have to buy something get really annoying.  I try to not attend more than 1/year.  But I've also hosted 2 in 6 years myself.

But there's so many fun little parties to have and I prefer that but I do love a good theme!  It just gives me something to focus on. Parties we've had:
    - wine tasting
    - Roaring 20s
    - rockband/wii parties
    - Tapas
    - Asian w/ a movie
    - and a Fiesta party next month
