Re: PPC/TTC Wednesday??

  • QOTD:  I've always wanted to carry and K didn't have a strong desire either way.  The doctor did suggest she carry, which we thought about for about 5 minutes and then laughed.  There is no way she would be comfortable carrying, working, having me try to dress her in cute maternity things, having people try to touch her belly....it just wouldn't work with her.  It would be hysterical, but not fun ;-)

Updates:  I want sperm.  My botb is really bad and K just says whenever I want she is ready. I have two donor profiles that I really like I just need to order pictures and long profiles.  I left a message with the RE yesterday to start getting everything lined up for December.

Question - has anyone thought of sharing memberships to sperm banks?  The bank I want to see donor profiles for costs $165 for a 3 month unlimited membership.  Is there anyone out there that might want to share a membership.  If we're all joining these banks it might make more sense to share the cost and share the login codes....just a thought....

  • We'll both carry. Probably. C is REALLY invested in it. I want to, but if she has twins...we'll see. Barring significant job changes, she's first.

twotrue....i wish we were sooner. I'd totally be on board.

  • QOTD: On a scale of 1-100, Cecilia has zero interest in being pregnant and giving birth, while I have 150. End of story.

No new news other than my new job as a nanny.  This job should make the wait until next summer for TTC a little easier :-)

Janet - sharing bank memberships is a really great idea!  We're not ready to go there yet, but when we are, would be interested.

  • janet, which bank? we might be interested....

QOTD: Andrea's always wanted to have a baby, experience pregnancy, ect - its something she's always pictured herself doing and can't imagine not experiencing that. On the other hand, I've never imagined myself pregnant nor have I ever had the desire to ever carry (by the age of 5 i told my mom that I was going to adopt, lol) - so, easy choice.  Granted, if we run into issues and me carrying would be the next logical step, i might consider it...reluctantly....

  • In our original plan, we were both going to carry - L first and then me (due to our age difference.)  The week we met with the RE about getting L pregnant (November 2002), she was laid off at her job.  That put a halt to baby-making for over a year.  During that year L's younger sister had a baby with Down Syndrome, L had some medical issues crop up, and her age concerned her (42 at that time.)  So when we were ready to try again (March 2004) we decided that while she really wanted to experience pregnancy, having a child was more important than the experience or biology.  So, I went ahead and 19 months later we were pregnant with triplets (we lost one baby and went on to have wonderful twins!)

Now, I just wish our wonderful twins would sleep through the night - at 2 years old! *sigh*

  • we had our fist consultation with the re on monday. i'm not sure if anyone has been reading my blog, but it went well. it looks like we're going to be starting at the end of september. we could start at the begining of the month assuming her test results from tuesday morning come back ok, but her birthday is the first weekend and then she'll be out of town for work for about a week, and we have a lot of other things going on around then, so to reduce stress and let her enjoy everything we're going to wait.

we both want to carry, assuming all goes at least somewhat according to plan. she's a few years older than i am (35, soon 36), so she's going first to minimize the risk as much as we can.

  • Janet, if you're looking at Fairfax we might be interested... (even though we don't plan to actually start insems for a while, we've considered purchasing now, especially if we find a donor we particularly like).

No news here... ttc is on hold pending me settling in to my job. Sylvia asked me again last night if we could just go ahead and start, and I thought she was going to cry when I hemmed and hawed my way towards a "no". It makes me a little sad that we can't just accidentally get pregnant...

QOTD: How did you decide who will carry?
No big decision process here-- Sylvia had a hysterectomy about ten years ago, so she obviously can't carry. (We talked briefly about using her eggs, but due to her age [44] and family medical history, we decided against exploring that route.) So I'm "the incubator" (yes, she actually calls me her incubator-- a pet name of sorts).

  • I don't know if they still do it - but when we were looking Ffx would ocassionally have a "special" where complete profiles were free!  Keep your eyes out!

And this reminds me - I need to order the profile and picture to put in the safe for our kids.  Embarrassed Oops.

  • qotw-We both want to carry but since I am older I am going to carry first and the S will get her turn.  We plan on using the same donor so that the kids will be gen. related to eachother and then to both of us.

Janet-we would be interested.  Our three month all access for 165 just ran out last week and I didn't print out our top choices (whoops the wife was not happy with me!).  So now we need to reup.  Our timing would prob. be good since we are going to start in october and need to really make a decision on a donor pretty soon. let me talk to the wife about it and see what she thinks.  Oh the pictures and profiles can be quite adicting by the way.

  • QOTW: Carol is extremely extremely modest. She would not be able to go through all the steps it would take to get her pregnant... I think her head would explode. All through my appointments she repeats " I am so glad it is you and not me" So it was no question I would carry.

We have begun our second cycle with the injections. I go in tomorrow for another check and will probably have my next two IUI's by the start of next week. If it doesn't work out then we need to find a new donor because ours retired - so we are really hoping this works cause we really like the one we have.

    Thats it for now.

  • I am going to carry. Ophelia has a daughter and she says she doesnt want to do it again. So it just came upon on me and now I can't wait to do it. If only September can come and quicker.
  • This was a big PCP week for us!

Update: I had appointment on Wednesday with my new an Ob/Gyn. C came with me and it was great! The doc loved that I'm a doula, let me talk first and included C the entire time. If I weren't intending on having a home birth, or if anything changes and I need Ob care, I would definitely use her. She also signed our form (the cryobank specimen release authorization) and I mailed off the packet. That was our final steps for enrollment. As soon as it's processed, we'll be ready to buy (well as soon as we have the money saved up!)

Also, on Monday I was procrastinating by browsing our bank's (new) site and started looking at prior "donor of the month" pages. On one, our 1st choice donor was listed!!! It was crazy, I was suddenly able to see his baby picture (OMG!) and get a bit more info that's not in the short profile. They also now list vial availability. This is reassuring in a way, but it's also something (else) to obsess over. (i. e, "Did they sell it all yet!?") This new info just makes me want to buy all his additional profile items, but I also don't want to get too attached until we have more of our funds in order.

In related PCP $ news, we have been shifting to frugal living and saving as much as possible with a goal of buying ASAP, ideally before the new year.

QOTD: How did you decide who will carry? Similar to Mrs. F in desire levels and Kennedy in partner "I am so glad it is you and not me" feelings. Christine hates medical stuff (even sitting in the room with me this morning made her nervous) so it would be terrible for her to be carrying. Lucky me! I have been asked if C would carry if for some reason I cannot get pregnant, but no, we would move on to Foster/Foster-to-Adopt (which we most likely will do after 2 biological children).

  • Not too much new here. We continue to work on the guest bedroom and are slowly, but surely making progress.

I had a dermatologist appointment this morning and I went in knowing that I wanted to switch off of all of my medications... and knowing that my doc would probably be annoyed about it.
Reasoning/Story: I go to the derm for acne, we finally found a combo of meds that seems to work for me, but they are all class C/D drugs which are recommended against while pregnant. My doc is comfortable with me being on certain class C drugs, but I'm not (why risk it? especially when its over something like acne which is obviously not a health risk)... so I went in today and told her that I got my IUD removed so I want to switch now to the class B (safe for pregnancy) drugs. She did, but grudgingly.

Oh well, I know its a pain to do all that work just to switch my meds again, but this is definitely more important! In any case, I'm glad its done and that is one less thing standing in our way and for me to worry about.

    Big Smile
