Possible Dumb Soil Amendment Question - Peat
What is the difference, if any, between Peat Moss and Farm Peat? My local greehouse has both but the farm peat is quite a bit cheaper.
**I was planning on mixing it with vermiculite, soil and compost in my raised garden beds. In case that would make a difference on which I should/would choose.**
Re: Possible Dumb Soil Amendment Question - Peat
I did a little bit of research, and from what I found, it seems people are now farming sphagnum peat moss to help conserve natural supplies of it. Apparently, home gardeners (and maybe large scale farmers?) are using too much of the natural supply.
So, the farm peat may actually be the farmed peat moss. I'm not sure if it works the same in your soil, but I'm guessing it probably would, and if it's cheaper, I'd go for it.
You may also be able to get the greenhouse to show you the difference by opening up a bag.
