So macaroni and cheese is my favorite dish. I could eat it all day every day. Even the box stuff *gasp*. But my mom found this recipe a few years ago and our family determined it was the best by far. I had to type it up for a friend so I thought I'd share with you all too.
Baked Macaroni and Cheese
1/2 pound macaroni
1 teaspoon butter
1 beaten egg
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 cup milk
3 cups grated cheese - I use half Land O Lakes Yellow American from the deli and half sharp cheddar.
Boil macaroni and drain. Stir in butter and egg. Mix mustard and salt in 1 tablespoon of hot water. Add to macaroni along with the milk and cheese, leaving some cheese for the top. Pour into a buttered casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until custard is set and the top is crusty.
I've doubled this for a big crowd before. Depending on the dish you use you may need to bake it a little longer. Enjoy!
