Hi All,
Just wondering if you guys had any info on what made you choose a certain sperm bank, and whether you found "good" ones or "bad" ones. We have 2 that our clinic has given us, but they don't really recommend one over the other and I know there are others out there, just don't know where to begin.
Any opinion/info would be appreciated.
TIA
Danielle and Kate
Re: TTC - Sperm Banks??
We started with Midwest because it was significantly less expensive than the others.
When we switched clinics, the new one only worked with a limited number of banks (not including midwest) so we checked all for donors matching our criteria and our fave donor happend to be from new england cryo. So, we chose based on donor rather than bank.
fwiw, i've been equally satisfied with both banks and sperm counts have been similar.

We chose based on donor rather than based on bank. We had limited options due to the criteria we were looking for (namely, a redhead - there aren't many out there!!). We ended up working with a bank on the other side of the country. There is a website - sperm bank directory.com or something like that - that lists the major sperm banks across the country. We looked there, in addition to the lists at the back of the lesbian ttc books we had (one by Rachel Pepper and one by Stephanie Brill). I made a little chart for us that compared the prices of each bank and whether or not they had donors that met our criteria.
Just as an aside, I see your location is in the Boston area - if you haven't yet, you may want to look into the Alternative Insemination Center of Greater Boston. If you are planning to start with nonmedicated ICIs or IUIs, the AICGB offers them for like half the price as Boston IVF. They also provide free storage of your sperm (which many places charge for) - just an FYI in case you didn't know about them! I have had a great expereince with them.

We went with a local bank and didn't have any problems finding donors that matched our needs.
Our RE's office would only use California Cryobank or Fairfax. They are the 2 banks that they have had the most success with. We used CCB.

We used xytex and were very happy with them. I liked that you could get a 3 month membership with allowed you to see all the pictures and the long profiles. It was nice to be able to know right away if a donor was right for us.
I second feminist housewifes rec for the aigb. We had a great experience with them.
same here, but we're going w/ fairfax (entirely based on donor). Our RE stores for free, so we shipped them 3 to start and save on monthly costs.
