Somehow I got into some poison ivy while cleaning out the back yard and raking. It's all over my arms and in between my fingers. I've never had it before, but I can't use any antihistamines or cortisone products because I have allergy testing on Monday and all meds have to be out of my system.. anyone have any advice for taking the itch away? I've been doing oatmeal baths. and a little bit a calamine.
Also, how long does it take to go away?
Re: poison ivy... heeelllppp
Cancel/postpone the allergy testing and get some antihistamines. See a dr and see if they can give you a short dose of steroids.
Good luck.

Don't drink the water.

I think it depends how severe your reaction to it is. If it's just a mild rash, sometimes a paste of baking soda and water (or I've also heard scrubbing with a paste of baking soda and vinegar works, but never tried that one) can help calm the itch, and if that's the case the worst of it should be gone in a week or so. I've never had a rash bad enough that required more than calamine lotion and the will power to not itch.
If you're more sensitive to the sap, it could last a lot longer if it spreads quickly (which it sounds like it did), and the home remedies won't do a whole lot. In that case I would follow PP's suggestion.

Thank you ladies. It appears to either still be coming out or spreading, I woke up with a big patch on my forehead and the side of my nose. Needless to say, I will be rescheduling my testing and taking some meds.
THIS happened to me TWICE last summer! OMG, I'm so sorry!
I did the Ivarest cream and I also did the scrubs-COOL showers helped for a second, but the poison scrubs were ahhhh.... relief!
I wound up on steroids as it was pretty bad... (face both times) If it's unbearable... go get steroids or see a doctor!
